Discover a different side of The Gambia on this private two-day journey into the heart of the country. We will leave the coastal resorts behind and explore inland Gambia, combining wildlife, history and local life in one adventure.

One of the highlights is a boat trip around the Baboon Islands in River Gambia National Park, where we will look for chimpanzees and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the River Gambia. We will also visit historic Janjanbureh, formerly Georgetown, and experience a quieter and more authentic side of The Gambia.

The journey continues to the Wassu Stone Circles, part of the UNESCO-listed Stone Circles of Senegambia and one of the most important historical attractions in The Gambia. This is a private Gambia tour with a local guide, and the itinerary can be customized to suit your interests.

Itinerary

I'll pick you up from your accommodation in the morning and we will begin our journey inland along the River Gambia.
Our first major stop will be the Baboon Islands in River Gambia National Park. We will take a boat trip through this beautiful natural area and look for chimpanzees and other wildlife while enjoying the peaceful scenery of the Gambia River.
We will continue to Georgetown, today officially known as Janjanbureh. This historic town on Janjanbureh Island is an interesting place to experience a quieter and very different side of The Gambia, far away from the busy coastal tourist areas.
During our visit to Janjanbureh, we will explore the town and learn about its colonial history and its connections with the slave trade.
We will then visit the Wassu Stone Circles, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Stone Circles of Senegambia. Wassu contains 11 impressive megalithic stone circles connected with ancient burial traditions and is one of the most important archaeological attractions in The Gambia.
After a full day of exploring, we will spend the night in a comfortable local lodge.
On the second day we will enjoy the journey back towards the coast and I will take you back to your accommodation.
