What you can expect

Makasutu Cultural Forest is a 405-hectare ecotourism reserve in The Gambia, featuring diverse landscapes such as palm forest, woodland, savannah, mangroves and the Mandina Bolong creek. During the tour, we explore the forest in search of wildlife like baboons and various bird species, followed by a relaxing boat trip through the mangrove creeks, offering a peaceful view of the natural surroundings.

You will also meet a local palm wine tapper, taste fresh palm juice and learn about traditional harvesting methods. Depending on the day, there may be a visit to a fortune-teller. Guests on the full-day tour will enjoy a buffet lunch with traditional entertainment from a Jola cultural group.

Half-day or full-day tour

The half-day option is ideal if you want to experience the main attractions of Makasutu Cultural Forest in a shorter time.

The full-day option gives you more time to enjoy the forest and includes a buffet lunch and cultural entertainment.

Itinerary

I’ll pick you up directly from your hotel or accommodation.
The drive from the Senegambia area usually takes approximately 40 minutes, depending on traffic and your pick-up location.
After arriving at Makasutu Cultural Forest, we will explore the reserve with a local guide and look for baboons, birds and other wildlife.
We will take a peaceful boat trip through the mangrove creeks.
You will meet a local palm wine tapper, taste fresh palm juice and learn how it is traditionally collected.
Depending on the programme available that day, we may also visit a traditional fortune-teller.
Guests on the full-day tour will enjoy a buffet lunch with traditional music and cultural entertainment.
At the end of the tour, I will drive you back to your accommodation.
